Harvest for Hockey supports team and youth

The Neepawa Natives Harvest for Hockey program helps support the local junior team. The money raised from the Harvest for Hockey program comes in at a time of year when the team is running up large billeting costs. The money from grain that farmers donate goes to billet families and in turn, most of it gets spent in local grocery stores as families provide good meals for the players

NGCC ready to host Rosebowl Tournament

A premier golf tournament, which has become an end of summer tradition for many, returns to Neepawa this Labour Day weekend. The Neepawa Golf and Country Club (NGCC) is scheduled to host the 55th edition of the Rosebowl Tournament, Sept. 2-4. Over 100 golfers from across the province have committed to the event, including returning champion Mike Evenson of McCreary. Other notable challengers returning will include Kris Jacobsen, who finished second in the 2016 tournament and 2014-2015 championship flight winner, Mark Kerkowich.

Though the stifling temperatures outside suggest otherwise, the first signs of winter have returned to Neepawa, with the Neepawa Natives’ annual training camp. Anywhere between 75 to 90 players where estimated to report to the Yellowhead Centre on Wednesday, Aug. 30, for the 29th instalment of the MJHL hockey club’s tryouts.

Rivers Comets bring home a championship

What a weekend it was! Rivers Comets, hosting the inaugural provincial Senior A championships, bested the field and ended 2017 on a high note. Facing off in a five-team double elimination tournament, Comets took the high road to Sunday’s final by winning games on Friday and Saturday night before completing a 3-0 weekend with their second victory in under 24 hours over Cartwright Twins on Sunday. Outscoring opponents 11-3 in their three games, Comets rode some masterful pitching performances by Ryan Shaw, shrewd defense and clutch hits in crucial moments.
