Team Manitoba 2016 returned home Aug. 20 from the 2016 Canada 55+ Games in Brampton, Ontario. The team of 108 participants ranging in age from 55 to 95 experienced the fun and friendly competition of the national Games in Brampton from Aug. 16 to 19. Approximately 1,700 athletes from all across Canada participated in this year’s 20th anniversary parade and games.
Rosebowl golf tourney set for Neepawa

The Neepawa Golf and Country Club (NGCC) is pleased to see that its Rosebowl Tournament has become, for many golfers across the region, an annual tradition. The prestigious competition has been a staple of the local golf calendar for over five decades and is set to begin on Saturday, Sept. 3. Mark Kerkowich from the Clear Lake Golf Course heads into the weekend as the defending champion, having won the 2014 and 2015 edition of the event.

While most of us are still thinking about barbecues and beaches, the Neepawa Natives are looking ahead to the long bus rides and early morning practices that are part and parcel of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League season. The junior ‘A’ club is set to begin its training camp on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at the Yellowhead Centre, with between 90 to 95 players looking to secure a spot on the roster.

The swim season has drawn to a close for the Neepawa Blue Dolphins. The team closed out its summer schedule by hosting a regional meet at the Neepawa Swimming Pool on Sunday, Aug. 21. A total of seven clubs representing all sections of the province participated. The host club had a terrific day for swimming and the results were as follows:

The Neepawa Tigers are hopeful that a year’s experience on the gridiron will translate into a successful 2016. The team is heading into the Rural Manitoba Football League (RMFL) regular season in a better position than they did this time last year, when it lost a large contingent of veteran players.
