Rivers teen wins bronze at nationals

Sixteen-year-old Haylee Anderson of Rivers was in Mississauga, Ont. May 2-7 to compete in the annual National Aboriginal Hockey Championship (NAHC). As part of Team Manitoba, she and the rest of the roster claimed their second consecutive bronze medal; Haylee’s first NAHC bronze medal was won last year in Halifax.

Several athletes from Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute (NACI) found themselves at or near the top of podium at the Neepawa Senior Invitational Track and Field Championship. The event was held on Friday, May 13 and featured some of the best young competitors from high schools across western Manitoba. Notable results for NACI included:

Neepawa Natives hire new marketing manager

The Neepawa Natives have hired Derek Pearson as the team’s new marketing director. Pearson, who also owns and operates the Boxe Neepawa Combat Sports and Fitness Club, will also serve this coming season as the team’s trainer.
Carlin commits to Concordia

Neepawa Natives defensemen Patrick Carlin has committed to Concordia University of Edmonton and its hockey program for the 2016-2017 season. The Concordia Thunder play in the nine team Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). With Carlin, who is originally from Edmonton, commiting to the Thunder, he joins Austin Hingtgen as the most recent graduating players of the Neepawa Natives, who will pursue college opportunities in the upcoming year.
