Culture is an important part of our lives and within the context of culture, there is the subgroup of Canadian-made content. Historically, the federal government has focused its concern over Canadian content to regulating a minimum number of Barenaked Ladies songs that must be played on the radio, funding the CBC and making sure our cable and satellite providers show enough shows featuring Anne of Green Gables.

Photo submitted by Ron Nordstrom. Kevin Roy and Amie Peterson from Winnipeg performed a concert in the home of Ron and Diane Nordstrom on April 26 to a crowd of around 20. Kevin and Amie played a mix of fast paced bluegrass and soulful tunes.

Kurt Vonnegut was an author best known for his novel Slaughterhouse Five. Vonnegut believed that all people needed to be creative simply because it was good for the soul. One of my favorite Kurt Vonnegut quotes is:
Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what’s inside you, to make your soul grow. - Kurt Vonnegut

The resounding defeat of the Manitoba NDP on April 19 was a long time coming. They won elections in 1999, 2004, 2007 and 2011. By 2016, their luck ran out and to many in Manitoba, it was none too soon. The NDP would never have won the 1999 election except for a combination of circumstances that worked in their favour.
