Like most kids growing up on a farm, I was driving farm equipment and our old grain truck (a 1947 Mercury 2-ton, maximum speed 30 mph) by the age of 12. So I have been driving for over 50 years; the last 20 of which have been on the highways and district roads in Manitoba.

Store owners, florists and candy suppliers beware! Your stock is about to dwindle to nothing. St. Valentine’s Day is coming and from late afternoon Feb. 13 through noon Feb. 14, procrastinators from every corner of our community (mostly male) will be coming your way looking for cards, flowers and candy for those they love.

Had they lived, they would be in their late 50s today. But they didn’t. Their lives were lost when a fire destroyed their home. Their funeral was the first of many I have conducted in the last 40 years. It is firmly etched in my memory because of the tragedy that took two precious lives.

There is nothing I hate worse than wet feet. Cold wet feet are the worst. When your feet are wet, it seems every part of you feels it and when your feet are cold it seems to take forever to get warm. My favourite way to get warm is to get nice and close to a warm fire and let the heat of the fire sink in and warm me to my very bones.
