Former Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute student Daniel Heschuk has been named the University of Manitoba’s Athlete of the Week. Heschuk is a part of the U of M cross country running team and was singled out for his performance at the 2016 CIS Cross Country Championship in Quebec City, held on Saturday, Nov. 12. The Bison men’s team finished the race in 12th overall place (fourth in Canada West) – an improvement from last year’s 14th overall placing.

For the Bison squad, they were led by third year student Heschuk, as he completed the 10K race on the Plains of Abraham course with a 40th place finish (14th in Canada West) in a time of 31:33. With this performance, Heschuk earned Canada West Second Team All-Star recognition and first time in his Bison career.

In his third CIS championship appearance, Heschuk vastly improved on his 72nd place finish from last season’s championship. The Neepawa resident was also the top Bison men’s runner in two races over the 2016 season.
