Neepawa will have several activities taking place at Riverbend Park on Canada Day.

On Tuesday, July 1, from 3-7 p.m., there will be a kids carnival which will include clowns, face painting and balloon twisting. Amanda Novak, leisure services manager for the Town of Neepawa, says it’s important that everybody is aware that after 7 p.m., the clowns will be leaving.

“I don’t want anybody’s little ones to be disappointed if they don’t get there in time to get their face painted,” she said.

A pork dinner will take place from 5-7 p.m. ($10 a plate), followed by main stage entertainment consisting of The Christy Kim Band, starting at 7 p.m.

“They’re a band that plays country music and soft rock. They’re very entertaining,” said Novak.

A professional fireworks display by Archangle Fireworks Inc. will then take place at dusk.

A concession will be open from 3 p.m. to dusk, which will be sponsored by the Neepawa Chamber of Commerce.

Novak says all activities will be taking place on the east side of the swimming pool at Riverbend Park.

Meanwhile, in Riding Mountain National Park, the park entry will be free for Canada Day. The RMNP celebrations begin at 11 a.m. with a citizenship ceremony, welcoming Canada’s newest citizens, followed by entertainment by Manitoba’s own Don Amero, Kenny Shaw, Mackenzie & Tate, Katie MacDonald and Until Red.

In addition to all of the on-stage festivities, there are many other activities to keep everyone busy, including the Discovery Dome on the lawn between the beach and the visitor centre where RMNP guides will have a plethora of hands-on activities to pique your curiosity.

In the evening, sing along at a campfire program on the main beach of Clear Lake as park guides fill you in about everything from wetlands to wild animals.

There will also be an open house in one their oTENTik camping units.

Onanole will also be hosting several activities, starting with a community pancake breakfast in front of Barnaby’s Grille. You can also grab your lunch at Sportsman’s Park’s annual hot dog barbecue.

Lastly, at dusk, meet near the Big Elk to take in the community’s famous fireworks display.

In Minnedosa, the day will begin with a pancake breakfast from 9 - 11 a.m. at the Beach Pavilion.

There will also be a sand castle building contest, beginning at 10 a.m. (judging at 3 p.m.) and a beach volleyball tournament (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). You can register for the event at the Minnedosa recreation office.

Other events in Minnedosa on Canada day include a classic car show (1-4 p.m.), a kids zone (1-4 p.m.) which includes children’s crafts, face painters, a bouncy castle and more.

There will also be a photo booth from 4-5:30 p.m. as well as water relays from 4-6 p.m.

Live music, a weiner roast (8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.) and fireworks at dusk by the Minnedosa volunteer firefighters will also take place.
