The Sand Hills Casino officially opened its doors on Monday.
The casino, which was built on the Swan Lake First Nation land near Highway 5 just south of Carberry, features 350 slot machines, table games, a restaurant, lounge, and live entertainment.
“This is a significant day for First Nations,” said Assembly of Manitoba Grand Chief Derek Nepinak in a release.
The 31,000 square foot casino was constructed over the last year at a cost of approximately $25 million.
Financing was provided by Hemisphere Gaming and Canadian banks. Hemisphere also developed and will manage the casino.
The casino is built in a contemporary, ranch style with exposed timber beams and walls of glass and is Manitoba's third First Nations-owned casino.
