Changes for seniors

Assorted services to seniors in Rivers and Rapid City have been co-ordinated for the past 26 years by Rivers/Rapid City Senior Services. Two offices have been maintained with the co-ordinator in Rivers working each morning, and Rapid City’s co-ordinator three days a week for five hours each day. The organization has been very fortunate to have two extremely capable women working as co-ordinators, Jean Young in Rivers and Mavis Cronkrite in Rapid City.

At its Feb. 23 meeting, the board accepted with much regret, the resignation of Mavis, who has worked in her town for the last 17 of our 26 years. She has established deep rapport with clients and will surely be missed.

Jean is another long-term employee, giving 15 years to the organization. She has agreed to become a full-time employee and in order to cover the needs in Rapid City and area, will now work Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Jean is looking forward to meeting with seniors in Rapid City and learning how she may assist them, beyond the Lifeline emergency response units, for which she was already travelling to that town. Jean will contact Valleyview Seniors to arrange a time for her to give a presentation and she plans to knock on doors and provide her contact information to those expressing an interest in the same.

The Rapid City office, which shared space in Rapid City Library, has been closed. Librarian Shirley Martin has agreed to provide Jean with names and numbers of people who call there looking for the senior co-ordinator. However, it is the wish of the board that Shirley not be unnecessarily burdened with this responsibility, so please change your contact information. If you reside in the Rapid City area and previously called Mavis for support, please contact Jean at 204-764-0440 (cell) or 204-328-7316 (home).
