Suspect in Gladstone stabbing surrenders to RCMP

RCMP have confirmed that Daniel Richard Saltise turned himself into police at the RCMP detachment in Portage la Prairie on Tuesday afternoon. It's expected that Saltise will be charged with one count of aggravated assault, break and enter with intent and assault. Additional information is expected to be released by the RCMP in the near future.

On July 18, 2015, shortly after 1:00 am, Spruce Plains RCMP was called to a residence just south of Gladstone regarding a stabbing incident where two male suspects fled. Officers from the Spruce Plains area attended the location and found a 24 year-old male suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was taken to hospital by Air Ambulance where after surgery, he remains in serious but stable condition.

During the initial investigation, officers located and arrested one youth suspect a short distance from the residence. The youth arrested has been charged with one count each of aggravated assault, break and enter with intent and assault. The 15 year-old was remanded in custody and appeared in court yesterday. Efforts to locate the second male were unsuccessful.

A warrant for the arrest of Daniel Richard Saltise, 22, from Plumas has been issued for the same charges  “Based on our investigation to date, we believe this assault was targeted” says Sgt. Bert Paquet of the Manitoba RCMP. “Our efforts to locate and apprehend the second male involved continue.”

Manitoba RCMP Serious Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
