The internet presence for Neepawa Access Community Television (NACTV) has been taken over by someone other than NACTV.

Late on Thursday, Oct. 15, it was discovered that nactv.ca had been commandeered by an outside server and would reroute visitors to a CBC article from 2011, related to the Neepawa Natives hazing incident.  Once discovered, representatives with NACTV attempted to take down the incorrect link and return the website to normal. At that time, it was discovered that the domain ownership rights had lapsed and had been purchased by an organization not directly affiliated with the community access television station.  As of Friday, Oct. 16, NACTV still did not have control of the site, though a coming soon page had replaced the CBC story by mid-morning.

The name servers associated with the ownership change of NACTV website are ns10.pcminitech.ca 192.186.90.187 and ns11.pcminitech.ca 192.186.90.188. The exact same servers were used on Oct. 15 to secure the rights to neepawapress.ca and mywestman.net. On Monday morning, the home pages of both neepawapress.ca and mywestman.net websites had an advertisement for CJ 97 radio with the message “Advertise with CJ Raido (sic) call us at 1877345701.”

When reached for comment on Monday morning, CJ 97 owner and operator Bill Gade noted that he was not aware of the situation. Once alerted to what had occurred, Gade said that the PC Mini Tech was not him. After viewing the pages, Gade added that it concerned him that whomever had activated the websites had spelled the word radio wrong. By Monday afternoon, radio was spelled correctly.

As for the future online presence of NACTV, board president Ivan Traill said that they are working on the situation and will likely have to create a new website for the television station. No timeline for the new website to begin operation has been established.
