More than a dozen exchange students from 12 countries converged on Neepawa this past weekend. They were here for the annual orientation event hosted by “Neepawa Inner Wheel,” now in its 38th year.

It brings together all the visiting students posted to schools in Rotary District 5550, which stretches from northwestern Ontario to the Alberta border.

After the morning orientation, they were taken to Rotary Park in Neepawa, where they enjoyed a wiener roast, soccer and a wagon ride, followed by a banquet and dance at the Legion Hall. After the banquet, they, in turn entertained their counsellors, host “parents” and members of Rotary and Inner Wheel with music and quizzes about their own countries and languages.

The students come from Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Finland, France, Italy, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and Taiwan. They will stay in Canada until the end of the school year next summer.
