Rivers Collegiate’s Grade 10 students will kick off Talk Energy Week (Feb. 20-27) activities with their participation in the Manitoba Sustainable Energy Association (ManSEA) conference, What’s Cooking?

The conference will be held in Brandon at the Agricultural Extension Centre and feature presenters on the topics of efficient building design, off-grid systems, bioenergy, alternative energies and future possibilities in energy. Students will participate in a series of round-table discussions with the presenters, and other experts, at the conclusion of the presentations.

As a follow-up to the ManSEA conference, Rivers Collegiate will host a Talk Energy Week speaker series on Thursday, Feb. 25. Three presentations will be given by industry leaders concerning the latest developments in Canada’s present energy production and use, alternative energy possibilities, and a look at more sustainable energy production and use.

Let’s Talk Energy is a national program based at the Canadian Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa, which seeks to promote energy literacy among Canadians. As a result of the emphasis on environmental and sustainable programming being offered at Rivers Collegiate, the initiative contacted Rivers Collegiate to inquire about our interest in possibly hosting a speaker series during Talk Energy Week.
