The surprise gathering was to celebrate Pittman’s 25 plus years of producing the weekly Looking Back feature in the Neepawa Press, as well as his receipt of the Canadian Community Newspapers Association’s (CCNA) Silver Quill Award. The Silver Quill recognizes individuals for 25 years of service to the newspaper industry and those who have made a distinguished contribution to the association. Pittman’s first Looking Back column was published on May 23, 1989 and has become a long time favourite of readers of the Press.
