Razzamatazz Dance Club held its 26th annual recital late last month and they named this year’s program Making Memories. Following on the success of last year’s first ever presentation in Brandon, the 2016 showcase was once again held in that city and the amphitheatre seating of Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium.

Last year’s audience numbered 450 who watched 47 dances for the 82 dancers and it lasted nearly three hours. This year 250 people saw 57 dances from 89 boys and girls in 21 different groups; the entire recital time, including intermission, was nearly four hours long. Once edited of applause, delays in soundtrack cues, etc. the recording which will air on Channel 12 (Westman Communications Group TV subscribers only) is two hours and 41 minutes long. Making Memories will be shown on that channel May 22-25 at 7 p.m.

During intermission were draws for raffle prizes and a 50/50; Dianne Wareham won fishing gear, John Morgan won a roaster and Jenny Moar won $167.50. Frances Young of Rivers won $1,000, the second draw of the rainbow lotto in which tickets were sold in advance and one draw was done previously. At the recital’s end instructor Charlene Hiscock provided gifts to her junior helpers: Rachel Veitch, Megan and Haile Hubbard, Tia-Lee and Trista Morgan, Hannah Toews, Cassidy Davis, Amber Pomeroy, Emma Roulette and Chanelle Dupuis. Rachel was also given a graduation gift; she is completing Grade 12 at Rivers Collegiate this year and will study respiratory therapy at University of Manitoba this fall. Charlene also donated scholarships to lucky students in combo classes, older levels and dance exam participants; winners this year were Jessica Wright (combo), Mia Lepp (exam) and Alissa Janz.

Razzamatazz Dance Club accepts children aged three and over, who typically rehearse three days a week in Rivers. Extra classes are held later in the season to prepare for festivals and recital. For more information on this growing group, watch for information later this summer regarding their registration evening.
