Chief, Rivers Police Service

The month of July saw a total of 48 calls for Rivers Police Service. There were numerous calls regarding Canada Revenue Agency scams, which led police to putting awareness articles in Rivers Banner and on the Riverdale Municipality Facebook page.

Criminal Code violations remain relatively unused with one break and enter and three thefts under $5,000, a total of four cases. Various other crimes such as breaches, public mischief, harassing phone calls, etc. numbered two in July. The year-to-date tally of Criminal Code files is 53.

On the traffic side of things, there were no federal charges, but seven provincial; one failure to remain at a scene and six other Highway Traffic Act violations which includes speeding, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a licence, etc. One accident was reported, which brings the year-to-date total of traffic charges to 83.

Liquor and Gaming Control Act and Intoxicated Persons Detention Act/breach of the peace remains unchanged from June — 12 cases in four categories of this section in the first seven months of 2016.

The nuisance bylaw was enforced by Rivers Police Service twice in July and the animal control bylaw three times. Of the four bylaws police enforce (also burning and traffic), there have been 24 cases so far in 2016.

We continue to be regularly called upon for assistance; once for the public, three times for other agencies and seven times for RCMP calls in the former RM of Daly area. The year-to-date total of assistance files is 111.

Police responded to two 911 calls last month, which falls into the miscellaneous section; other categories were one community relation, three noisy parties/disturbances, one Child and Family Services, two found properties, one trespassing and eight other miscellaneous calls, which includes unfounded complaints. Of the 213 days from Jan. 1 to July 31, police have had 188 miscellaneous files.
