Neepawa Library spring update

Spring is nearly here and all of us at Neepawa Library are looking forward to sunshine and warmer weather like everyone else, because it’s hard to know what’s more enjoyable than sitting out in the fresh air with the birds singing and a good book to read! But, perhaps you don’t know what to read next. Never fear, your local library is here to help! Drop in to the Neepawa Library and draw a random book selection from our suggestions in our Book Jar, and who knows, maybe it will be the start of a new reading adventure. We also have new arrivals at the Neepawa Library which suit a variety of tastes, such as The Break ( a Canada Reads 2017 selection) by Katherena Vermette, Paris for One and Other Stories by Jojo Moyes and Strange Affair by Peter Robinson.

Another way to learn about interesting books is to join a book club. One Neepawa book club meets at the library every third Thursday of most months. This casual gathering is a chance to meet with other book lovers to talk about books over bagged lunches and decide if these may be books to recommend to others. It’s all quite relaxed and is open to anyone who is interested. At the next meeting on April 20, they are discussing books chosen from the MacLean’s Bestsellers List (any month); we have many of these titles in Neepawa and the other branches in our region.

Be sure to mark your calendars for these upcoming events at Neepawa Library in April:

Storytime returns after spring break on April 7 at 11:00 am. We welcome pre-school age children with their caregivers for a 45 minute program of story books, I Spy and crafts. No registration is required.

April 19 is National Canadian Film Day, a cross-country celebration of Canadian films. This is Neepawa Library’s first participation in this exciting event and we’ll be screening Room at 1:30 pm. Written by Emma Donoghue, Room is a story of a mother and her five year old son who was raised in the room where she has been held captive for seven long years. Told from the boy’s quirky perspective, it’s a tale of resilience and a mother’s love. There’s no charge to attend and we’ll have giveaways and popcorn, too! April 20 is the long-awaited visit by Brandon author Craig Russell who will be telling us about his latest book, Fragment. He’ll be here at 5:30 pm for a reading and conversation. We look forward to a good turnout for this local author’s visit.
