Remembering Rivers and Area, the history book from 2013, states Rivers has had a professional laundry service since two years after the town’s formation, or in 1908. An additional 16 owners are listed from various eras and locales in the past 109 years. The most recent owner has been Andy Wollbaum of Rivers; he has operated out of 225 Main Street since July 2008. Effective May 1, Diane Phillips of Rivers is the new owner of the business, still located in that building.
Diane will continue to work her full-time job as a gas attendant at Hwy. 1 Esso in Brandon, but is excited for the “opportunity to grow personally, and in the business community.”
There will be no changes inside the buildings; customers will still have access to six front and top load washing machines and six dryers. They are all coin operated, as is a reverse osmosis water filling station; the water is created by means of a small treatment plant in the back of the building. The water filling station accommodates five- or one-gallon bottles, but consumers must bring their own container; no receptacles are sold at Rivers Laundromat. The final piece of coin-operated equipment is a soap dispensing machine; should customers run short of suds, they have immediate access to cleansing powder for their laundry.
What consumers can expect to change are the hours; Diane will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m.-10 p.m.; come Oct. 1 (and until April 30) she will shave two hours off her day by opening and closing an hour later and earlier (9 a.m.-9 p.m.).
