Once Upon a Mattress drama auditions

If you’ve ever had a hard time measuring up to the expectations of others, you can probably relate to Strathclair Drama Club’s 2016 annual production, Once Upon a Mattress. This musical comedy is a hilarious adaptation of The Princess and the Pea, a classic fairy tale. Originally produced for the Broadway stage in 1959, it has since been adapted for television in 1964, 1972 and 2005. One of the most notable cast members was Carol Burnett, who appeared in the original production as well as all three adaptations. Sarah Jessica Parker, Elliot Gould, Bernadette Peters, Matthew Morrison and Zoey Deschanel have also taken on leading roles in this marvellous show.

New business running in Rivers

I spoke with Jesse Gilbert on Nov. 2 about the store. He told me the store buys shirts, mugs, water bottles, hats, etc. and produces logos on these items. The name of the store is Butterfly Consultations, (owned by Michelle Budiwski) which is a small business management company, and the name of the small business that's growing inside that building is Champion Engraving, just one of Butterfly’s clients.

November is 4-H month

For years longer than anyone can remember, the first Wednesday of November is National 4-H Day, which in Manitoba, has morphed into 4-H month. As such members and leaders from Alexander, Poplar Hill and Roseland-South Brandon 4-H clubs met with Manitoba’s minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development to support his efforts at proclaiming November 4-H Month.

Neepawa of yesteryear: Mama said there’d be days like this

By the water tower was an open field that we played our ‘Little League’ baseball on. My dad was the manager and Tony Evans was the coach. I can recall like it was yesterday, waiting for a grounder during infield practice with Tony belting them out one-handed harder than most of us could hit with two hands!
