Roxy board approves digital projector purchase

Numbers at an AGM do not reflect the importance of an organization. This is true because there are many volunteers who make Neepawa’s Roxy Theatre run and thrive. The few people present at the Oct. 15 AGM were but a shadow of those who care.  

The annual meeting reports reflected numbers and finances as of July 31. Chair Marilyn Dietrich informed those present that although attendance at movies was down, rental was up and that fundraising for the new projection equipment is on target (just shy of $90,000 to October).

Twenty-two team captains put in valuable volunteer hours to ensure that people are on hand to pop popcorn, take tickets and clean up at each movie showing. Also, four new captains have come on board to help out.

Publicity costs have increased and the board made the decision to increase sponsorship packages for the first time since 2006 to help defray some of that increase.

A motion to purchase the new digital equipment was made and adopted by those present. Dietrich said that the ETA for the new equipment is “the first quarter of 2013”, which will coincide with a gala dinner and dance in February near Valentine’s Day.

This time was chosen because, “the Roxy is the heart of the community”, said Dietrich.

The officers for 2013 are as follows: president Marilyn Dietrich, secretary Ineke Mack, treasurer Audrey Heffell, bookings/projectionist Danielle Arsenault, concession Don and Kim Denoon, publicity Archie Freed, facilities/caretaking: Francis McCarthy, volunteer coordinator Judy Taylor, student volunteer Josh Elder and directors at large Adrienne Mack, Jeannette Harding, Don Eisener. The vice president’s position is vacant.

The fundraising raffle draw was done and winners were: Ray Smith, Mark Perrett and Mark Leboutillier.
