Krzyzaniak invited to Hockey Canada development team selection camp
Neepawa product Halli Krzyzaniak has been invited to take part in Hockey Canada's national women's development team selection camp Aug. 10-18 in Calgary.
The 18-year-old blueliner has experience on the national level as she helped lead the Canadian women's team to a second consecutive gold medal at the world under-18 women's hockey championship in January.
"Going into camp, I'm trying to focus on the things that I can control, which is my on-ice play and being a good teammate and hopefully I can prove to the coaches that I deserve to stay there," said Krzyzaniak.
Invitations are based on evaluations by Hockey Canada scouts during the 2012-13 season. The 40 players attending the camp will be split into two teams, which will participate in several practices and intrasquad games, as well as off-ice dryland training, fitness testing and high performance classroom sessions. The camp takes place at the Markin MacPhail Centre, Hockey Canada's home arena at Canada Olympic Park.
Eventually, the development team will be pared down to 13 players, who will join the 27 members of the senior team. Those 40 players will then be split into two squads for a three-games series, from Aug. 19-24 in Calgary.
Krzyzaniak signed a letter of intent to join the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux women's hockey program next season last November.
Brandon's Ashleigh Brykaliuk and Virden's Karissa Kirkup were also selected to take part in the camp.
