MJHL: Natives fall to 0-3; Kings edge Stampeders

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Neepawa Natives dropped to 0-3 on the season after losing 5-2 to the Steinbach Pistons on Wednesday night at the Yellowhead Centre.

After Connor Lockhart of the Pistons opened the scoring in the first period, Brayden Cuthbert was able to net a power play goal to tie the game at the 12:29 mark. The Pistons would regain their one-goal advantage a little more than two minutes later on a goal from Jonah Wasylak.

Robby Moar scored a shorthanded goal for the Natives early in the second period to tie the score 2-2 before the Pistons responded with two tallies later in the period from the sticks of Dustin Loeppky and Nicholas Kobelka.

Jordan Bochinski scored what would be the lone goal in the third period for the Pistons.

Nicholas Deery picked up the win between the pipes for Steinbach, stopping 41 of 43 shots, while Michael Gudmandson ended up with the loss in net for Neepawa.

Meanwhile, in other MJHL action on Wednesday night, the Dauphin Kings edged the Swan Valley Stampeders 5-4.

Tristen Mullin netted a goal and an assist for the Kings in the win.
