Jets ink Morrissey

A little late to the party here, but here's the news Jets fans if you don't already know…

The NHL's Winnipeg Jets have signed first-round draft pick Josh Morrissey to a three-year entry-level contract.

The team announced the deal on Thursday. The two-way deal pays him an average of just over $1.4-million a year.

Morrissey, 18, is currently with the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders, where the blueliner has two goals and three assists in three games so far this season.

 

Plainsmen defeat Spartans

It was a battle of Brandon-based teams in Winnipeg High School Football League action on Thursday.

Running back Victor St. Pierre helped the Crocus Plains Plainsmen edge the Neelin Spartans 27-23.

St. Pierre finished the day with 178 yards rushing and three touchdowns on the day as the Plainsmen improved to 4-1 on the season. The Spartans meanwhile, dropped to 3-2.
