The Brandon Wheat Kings paid a visit to Canadian Forces Base Shilo on Monday.

The players got a chance to experience a day of soldiering in what has become an annual event for the Western Hockey League club.

The team arrived at Kapyong Barracks early in the day, where they received a briefing on military code of conduct, before taking part in a number of military activities including the light arms simulator, light armoured vehicle (LAV) simulator and having "dinner in the field" with members of the Battalion.

Among the Wheat Kings who took part in the event was Minnedosa's Chad Robinson. The 20-year-old forward says another event the players took part in was an obstacle course which was designed by the Base.

"Some of the guys were getting pretty competitive with the [obstacle] course," said Robinson on Monday Sports Talk on 880 CKLQ. "A lot of the guys went around a second time and had their times taken to determine a winner and see who could go the fastest. It was good for the team I think."

Monday's visit marked the fourth year that the Wheat Kings have been invited to the Base which was hosted by the Second Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian light Infantry.

The first time the Wheat Kings travelled to Shilo was in 2010 and it served as a way for the Base to repay the Wheat Kings' organization for the hospitality that they showed the 2PPCLI at the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

The Wheat Kings roster also includes Neepawa's Quintin Lisoway.

The Wheat Kings take on the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night at Westman Communications Group Place. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
