'Long weekend' sports wrap: Natives successful over weekend; Robertson earns Scotties berth

Due to time constraints, the following is a condensed version of the weekend wrap . . .
- The Neepawa Natives won both of their games over the weekend. The MJHL club defeated the OCN Blizzard 5-3 on Friday and followed that up with a 4-3 shootout win over the Winnipeg Blues on Sunday.

- Darcy Robertson earned a berth in the women's provincial curling championship over the weekend in Neepawa. Robertson and her rink defeated Joelle Brown 7-4 in the final of the Scotties Berth Bonspiel. The Scotties takes place Jan. 8-12 in Virden.
- The Neepawa Farmers lost 13-7 to the Carberry Plainsmen in Tiger Hills Hockey League action on Saturday night. The Farmers now sit with a 1-3 record this season.
- The Neepawa Tigers edged the Rivers/Elton Rage 3-2 on Friday night in Westman High School Hockey League action. It was the Tigers first game of the regular season.
- The Brandon Wheat Kings went 1-1 over the weekend. The WHL club lost to the Swift Current Broncos 6-3 on Friday and then were able to win 5-3 over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Monday.
- The Brandon University Bobcats men's volleyball team defeated UBC-Okanagan on Friday and Saturday night at the Healthy Living Centre. Meanwhile, the Lady 'Cats women's volleyball team won both of their games over UBC-Okanagan as well.
In basketball action, the BU men's team lost both of their contests to the University of Saskatchewan on Friday and Saturday night to remain winless on the season. The women's team meanwhile, also dropped both of their games to Saskatchewan as well.
