Corey Haverstick of the Virden Oil Capitals has been named the Manitoba Junior Hockey League player of the week.

The 18-year-old forward from Winnipeg netted five goals and seven points in three games last week for the Oil Capitals who sit in first place in the Sher-Wood Division with 19 wins and 39 points after 31 games.

Haverstick also leads the Oil Capitals scoring race with 16 goals and 31 points after 30 games.

The runners up for the award were 20-year-old goaltender Braeden Ostepchuk of the Selkirk Steelers and 16-year-old forward Jackson Keane of the Winnipeg Blues.

Kings acquire Valentino

The Dauphin Kings made a rather significant trade on Monday, acquiring forward Justin Valentino and a 2014 fifth round MJHL Bantam Draft pick in exchange for Dauphin's first round pick in this year's draft and future considerations.

The 5-foot-10, 180 pound left-handed forward is currently in the top 20 in league scoring with five goals and 24 assists for 29 points in 28 games this season.  The Thompson product was also a member of the 2011-2012 MJHL all-rookie team.

Valentino joins veteran players such as Brent Wold, Dylan Butler and Brayden Cuthbert as recent additions to the Kings roster.

Dauphin will host the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup, April 25-May 4, 2014.
