Local sports celebrities from the Westman area, including NHL players such as Nesbitt's Aaron Rome and Travis Hamonic of the New York Islanders, will be making their presence felt in Shilo at the Investors Group BIRT Cup in June.
The celebrity charity golf tournament, which is a fundraiser for the Ashley Neufeld Softball Complex in Brandon, will also include comedians, Olympic medallists and even members of the media taking part.
"I've had a lot of mentors and a lot of people who have done a lot for me. I feel it's time to give back to the community," said Scott Hlady, BIRT Cup president.
The registration fee is $125 and covers the cost of a banquet which is scheduled to take place the evening of the event. Golfers who decide to register will be assigned one celebrity to play with in their group.
"We're going to have hockey pros, we've got a comedian, we've talked to football people, we've talked to baseball people, we've talked to curlers," said Hlady. "So there's going to be a wide range of people to play with."
The tournament is named after the late Neil Andrews, who was one of Hlady's baseball coaches years ago. The acronym BIRT stands for basics, intensity, respect and team.
The event takes place Friday, June 20 at the Shilo Golf and Country Club. Contact Scott Hlady at 204-573-4242 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information.
