A pair of goals by forward Ty Kraus, helped to secure a 4-1 victory for the visiting Selkirk Steelers over the Neepawa Natives on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

In the first matchup of the regular season between the two Manitoba Junior Hockey League clubs, Kraus opened the scoring late in the first period. Neepawa would reply late in the second period as Jared Pelechaty tied the game at 1-1.

Kraus would score his second of the evening midway through the third, at the 9:08 mark. Just over a minute later, Selkirk would secure a two goal cushion, as Dexter Kuczek secured a power play marker. Dale Goodbrandson added a short-handed empty netter with just under a second left left in game for Selkirk, to make the final 4-1 for the Steelers. With the defeat, Neepawa falls to 2-5 of the year, while Selkirk improves to 3-3.

The next game for the Neepawa Natives is set for Friday, Oct. 9, in Carberry against the OCN Blizzard. The two team will meet again the following evening, but this time, it’ll be in the Yellowhead Centre in Neepawa. Game time for both nights is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
