RM of Oakview, Aug. 25: Gravel is depleted in the Krahn and Couch pits but All West is currently crushing at Couch’s. Stripping will be done at Krahn’s before an additional 5,000 yards can be crushed. Roads to be considered for upgrading were discussed as well as maintaining higher traffic roads.
Rivers Police pleased with funding boost

A provincial announcement on Tuesday, Sept. 1 provides more finances for police agencies and the best part is it’s not coming from our tax dollars. A press release states, “Criminals will pay for greater public safety.” Most money or assets linked to criminal activity is deposited into Manitoba’s Criminal Property Forfeiture Fund. Money from this fund is then annually allocated to police departments (or other initiatives) though a grant program. This year the fund awarded $276,000 to five departments; $12,000 was earmaked for Rivers.
Female Chiefs set for Swift Current

The Yellowhead AAA Female Chiefs are hoping to be in mid-season form even before the first face-off of the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League regular season. The team has completed its training camp and has selected the roster for the upcoming year.

It's been an exciting week here at the Banner, we welcomed another paper into our family. On Thursday, Sept. 2, at 5 p.m., we took ownership of the Neepawa Press, bringing the 119-year-old paper back under local ownership.
