Rivers Police July 2015 report

Rivers Police Service Chief

Rivers Police Service responded to 61 calls in July, meaning almost two cases per day. Here are the latest statistics. The fifth violent crime in seven months was dealt with last month, bringing the 2015 assault total to three cases; other violent crimes are one sexual offence and one extortion/uttering threats/etc.

There has been a lot going on at the Beautiful Plains Museum this past month! We had Krista Mills, Britney Weber, Zoey Black and Ariel Neufeld, four Brandon University (BU) Rural Museum Archaeological Outreach students, examining our Aboriginal artifacts. The students are doing the work as a senior level “learning by experience” course under the supervision of Dr. Mary Malainey from the BU Department of Anthropology and Mr. Gord Hill, who is the Manitoba Archaeological Society (MAS) Public Outreach Coordinator.

Roe heads to Toronto for pageant

On Saturday, August 1, Kaylyn Roe will be heading to Toronto to compete in the Miss Teenage Canada Pageant.  The pageant itself will take place on Sunday, Aug. 9.

The pastor of a new church in Neepawa says he is bringing a message of hope and inclusiveness to the community. Stafford Greer, along with several members of his congregation, are planning to open a branch of the Prairie Alliance Church (PAC) in the former Neepawa Funeral home building in mid to late September. Greer, who has been a part of PAC for five years in Portage la Prairie, said that the denomination has a long established history in the province.

While the pages of the Neepawa Banner have been filled with news of large business moves lately, some smaller and medium sized business moves are also taking place. This past spring saw a huge new development in the Rocky Moutain Equipment building in the Neepawa industrial park on Hwy. 16 east. At the other end of town, in the RM of North-Cypress-Langford, Mazergroup made a huge update by renovating the former Mayor Equipment building. Just a couple of weeks ago construction started on the TIC facility in Neepawa on Hwy. 5 north.
