I can’t think of a time in my life when people were more unhappy with the state of the world. It seems that the Western countries are on the brink of war with some Middle Eastern countries, especially Iran. Within all that turmoil, Iran is severely at odds with other Middle Eastern countries. It is indeed a very messy situation.

Even at the best of times, the Canadian political process can be a little stupid. It just got a whole lot stupider recently, as the Wexit movement has officially become a federal political party. On Friday, Jan. 10, Elections Canada announced that Wexit Canada, as it will officially be known, is registered as a political party for future federal elections.

The upcoming leadership race for the Conservative Party of Canada will prove to be a fascinating political event. The generally liberal media can hardly wait to pounce on every word and facial expression spoken or displayed by the candidates. The ones who show themselves to be the most at odds with the mainstream media will suffer the worst. After all, we must realize that the CBC and their gaggle of mindless media followers are the real rulers of Canada.

By the time people are reading this, the calendar will have rolled over to 2020. Because of closures at our printer and Canada Post, the Dec. 27 paper was printed the week before and the Banner office was semi-closed for the week of Christmas. Apart from some very big news— the discovery of a body and subsequent murder investigation— it’s been pretty quiet over the last week. This break gave everyone a well deserved chance to reflect on the year that passed and look ahead to the next one.
