Ray Simms taught school in the Neepawa area and was a pitcher for the Neepawa Cubs in the Golden Age of baseball. Ray married Joyce Prus. He unfortunately passed away in 2014.

HyLife earns national recognition

A local employer has received national recognition for their work hiring newcomers. With a workforce that’s almost half immigrants, Neepawa-based HyLife Foods LP was recognized last week by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. On March 8, representatives from the pork processing company travelled to Ottawa to receive their 2017 Employer Awards for Newcomer Employment. Out of 47 nominees from across Canada, HyLife was one of three award recipients.

Team Ursel sendoff set for tonight in Arden

The send off party for Manitoba Senior Women's champions Team Ursel will be held at the Arden Community Centre this evening, starting at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and there will be a cash bar, silent auction and 50/50 draw with proceeds donated to the team. Curlmanitoba will also present the team with their provincial jackets. Everyone welcome to attend. Please come out and show your support for Team Ursel.

Conversational Tagalog being taught in Neepawa

Tagalog, the Austronesian language that is spoken as a first language by a quarter of the population of the Philippines and as a second language by nearly every Filipino citizen, is now being taught in Neepawa.
