80 years ago - Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1937: The board of trade advises the general public of a bylaw of the Town of Neepawa, having been dully passed: all retail businesses concerns in the town, garages and confectioneries excepted, will close at 12 noon on Thursday, Jan. 7, 1937 and every Thursday thereafter throughout the year with the exception of December.

Souris based company ready to take out the trash

The new company in charge of Neepawa’s garbage and recycling collection is looking forward to establishing itself within the community. MWM Environmental (formerly Municipal Waste Management Ltd) has been awarded the municipal contract for the next three years (2017-2019), with an option for a possible two year extension on the contract. The previous agreement with TAC Ventures, of Neepawa, expired on Dec. 31.

Pals across the ages

This year, young and old will share the joy of sending and receiving letters, thanks to a partnership between HAND and the Neepawa Guiding Unit. Starting in January, the 22 girls in Sparks, Brownies and Girl Guides will be partnered with an area senior for a new pen pal program. Each month, the pen pals will write to each other, sharing stories about themselves, their hobbies and their lives.

On Tuesday, Jan. 3 this update was released from the Town Office regarding changes to Garbage and Recycling Days: 

All addresses west of and including Mountain Avenue are Zone 1 with Recycling picked up on Tuesdays and Garbage picked up on Wednesdays.All addresses East of Mountain will be Zone 2 with Recycling picked up on Thursdays and Garbage picked up on Fridays. This will begin immediately, including today for Zone 1. See website or attached for map & details, posting by end of day. Thank you and we apologize for any confusion during the transition.

On Monday, Jan. 2, Neepawa residents were left wondering what was going on with Monday’s regularly scheduled recycling collection. As of 2:12 p.m., The Town of Neepawa posted a message on its facebook page that  garbage and recycling collection would occur later in the week, due to the transition with the new contractor. The previous contact with TAC Ventures ended on Dec. 31 and a new contract with Souris-based MWM Environmental was in place effective Jan. 1.
