Foundation laid for Riverdale Health Centre expansion

A spring issue of Rivers Banner announced “preliminary site preparations” for an addition to Riverdale Health Centre on April 16, but it wasn’t until mid-June that Horizon Builders Ltd. of Brandon began obvious work there.

Riverdale Municipality, June 2: The tax impact of the 2016 assessment was reviewed; assessments are attributed to market value, new construction and/or improvements. Riverdale Municipality is showing an increase of 20 per cent in residential properties and 54.9 per cent on farmland.

Sally Carter ordained deacon

St. James’ Anglican Church was filled on Sunday, June 28 for the ordination of Sally Virginia Carter, as deacon. Also ordained at the service were Cheryl R. Kukurudz of Brandon and Flora Young of The Pas. Twenty-four clergy dressed in red robes in celebration of the Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul, filled the choir loft and front seats. Family, relatives and friends sat in the remaining pews.

Congratulations to the Sunday school children who received their certificates at the windup on June 14. We would like to publicly thank the dedicated leaders, Shelley Foster and Becky Stewart, for another fun-filled year of Sunday school. Classes will resume on Sept. 13 followed by a Sundae Sunday fundraising ice cream party.

Catholics celebrate centennial

In conjunction with the Archdiocese of Winnipeg’s centennial, the parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church in Rivers centred its annual spring tea around this theme. Decorations in the church basement reflected the centennial theme and colours; some ladies wore brightly-coloured T-shirts which they purchased after mass at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg. Instead of dainties being served at this year’s tea, a large anniversary cake, decorated with the centennial logo as shown here, was shared with everyone. Smal votive candles received at the centennial celebration in Winnipeg decorated the tables, along with bright blue and yellow centerpieces. Our president opened the tea with a prayer before guests enjoyed the lunch.
