At the March 5 meeting of Rivers and District Chamber of Commerce, members learned some exciting news. Rivers Curling Club will be hosting the two-week Junior Canola Curling event at Riverdale Community Centre next January, and Sportsnet TV has agreed to broadcast the finals held on Sunday.
Rocky Mountain Equipment acquires Chabot Implements for $6.8 million

Rocky Mountain Equipment has purchased the Chabot Implements dealerships, a Manitoba-based dealer of Case IH agriculture equipment with locations in Portage La Prairie, Steinbach and Elie. Chabot also sells Kubota equipment through its Neepawa location.

Changes for seniors

Assorted services to seniors in Rivers and Rapid City have been co-ordinated for the past 26 years by Rivers/Rapid City Senior Services. Two offices have been maintained with the co-ordinator in Rivers working each morning, and Rapid City’s co-ordinator three days a week for five hours each day. The organization has been very fortunate to have two extremely capable women working as co-ordinators, Jean Young in Rivers and Mavis Cronkrite in Rapid City.

Manitoba has some of the finest wetlands in Canada and more than 7,000 acres across the province are protected by Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC). Wetlands are considered to be among the most important breeding and staging grounds for waterfowl in North America. Given the importance of wetlands to Manitoba and its citizens, NCC Manitoba has placed a great deal of emphasis on the securement of wetlands to ensure the protection of this critically important habitat and the continued use of this environment by the wide range of water fowl throughout Manitoba.
