On Saturday, Dec. 6 Rivers and Area Lions Club held a pancake breakfast before the annual Santa Claus parade. The organization charged for that meal but exactly one week later (Saturday, Dec. 13) they provided a free supper to area senior citizens.

As 2014 comes to an end, we would like to acknowledge people for their support of our fundraiser this fall, for buying pumpkins or donating to the orphanage and the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Ian and Petty Whyte are back in Kenya at the Springs of Life Children’s Home. They built another fundraising house in Brandon this summer; the house is still for sale.

In 1973 Dave Allen of Rivers became a member of Branch No. 75 Royal Canadian Legion and a year later, he began working at the weekly bingos. After 40 years of service, Dave announced his retirement so at a Wednesday event earlier this month, he was given a beautiful watch.
