HOPE drive to help local students

School may not start for another month, but NACI’s social justice group, HOPE, is already hard at work. Starting this week, boxes bearing a poster with the HOPE logo as well as a list of school supplies can be found around Neepawa at a few of the businesses.

The book, Amateur Hockey in Neepawa: A Scrapbook, was written by Rick Sparling. It contains 732 pages filled with articles, photographs, stories and anecdotes from 95 years of amateur hockey in Neepawa, starting in 1894 and continuing all the way to 1989.
Yellowhead Centre upgrades on time and on budget

After months of work, the first phase of upgrades to the Yellowhead Centre (YHC) in Neepawa have been completed. The $100,000 worth of improvements to the community owned and operated facility included the installation of new LED lighting, a de-humidifier, low-E ceiling, the painting of the arena seating and readjustment of the heating system. Yellowhead Centre director of operations Anne Kuharski said that it’s great to see how quickly this work was able to progress.

Brandon is the next place to experiment with a salt soil stabilized road. An order for the local salt company was filled this week for several tons of salt for the work. The company has received inquiries from other centres regarding the experiment in Neepawa and if the roads stand up in Neepawa over the winter, salt roads will without doubt then become quite popular.
