Fifth anniversary for Rivers and Area Foundation

Rivers and Area Community Foundation (RACF) held its fifth annual grant evening last Wednesday, Nov. 19. Chairperson Donna Morken announced that RACF has given $68,939.53 since 2010 and this year, 13 groups requested more than $96,000. Twelve of those 13 groups received a total of  $11,020.24.

Recognizing 30 years

Police Chief Bruce Klassen started working for Rivers Police Service in April but his career began in 1984. After four years of duty in Morden he transferred to work in Brandon where he policed until accepting the chief’s position in Rivers this spring.

Parking solutions for small towns

1-C-Parking

The town of Oswego, Kansas has an interesting way of providing extra parking in their downtown core area. There is angle parking on both sides, centre parallel parking and one lane of traffic going each direction. Oswego is slightly smaller than Minnedosa.

Discussions and even arguments about parking spots have been going on for decades. Rural people are infamous for wanting to park right in front of the store or restaurant they are headed for. Business owners are just as bad as they too like to park close to their daily destination.

4-H group hosting Christmas movie

Concerns come out of cop consultation

Rivers Police Service hosted a public forum on Nov. 17 which was attended by 37 people who expressed a number of concerns. Advertised as open to Daly and Rivers residents, it was surprising to see only a handful of Chimo Beach-area residents, especially when one considers how many rural policing questions were raised at the candidates forum held last month during the election campaign.
